The Oscars...
On a lighter note, the Oscar nominees were announced, so excited to see CRASH nominated for best picture and 5 other awards. It was my favorite movie of the year. Click

Goleta Postal Shooting
At 9:15pm last night shots rang out in the Goleta sky. Billy and I didn't hear anything... (maybe because of the intense show we were watching - Fox's 24) But the 10 o'clock Fox news was reporting this breaking story. We switched over to Key3 (the local news) and listened to Paula Lopez report this tragic event. (They interupted The Bachelor:Paris for the breaking news.)
We begin to hear the report that a woman began shooting people at the Goleta Post Office off of Storke, which is less that a mile from where we live, at that time she was still at large. 2 had been confirmed dead, with a possible 3rd and one person rushed to Cottage Hostpital with a severe gun-shot wound to the head. Billy and I sat there mesmerizied, wondering what the heck is up with postal shootings?? This is like the 3rd or 4th that I have heard of. Anyway, I woke up this morning to find out the woman shot 5 people total and then committed suicide. The wounded is still critical condition. At this time, no names have been released, just the sad details.

Miners in West Virginia
I went to bed last night rejoicing in the miracle that CNN was reporting the 12 of the 13 miners trapped for 40 hours were alive. The families all filled with unbelievable joy and relief. I wanted to stay awake because there was a promise that the survivors would be taken over to the church where all the families were waiting... but sleep overcame me and I went to bed. At about 9am this morning I turned on CNN to get an update only to find out that the report that the 12 miners were alive was erroneous and in fact the numbers were switched and only 1 miner had lived. I was SHOCKED and so saddened for the families who were all rejoicing last night only to find out 3 hours later that they were not alive but dead. My heart is grieving for these families.
